On Wednesday Alan, Heather, and I went white water rafting on the Arkansas River out of Canon City about an hour south of Colorado Springs. We were running a little late, due to a potty/breakfast stop...but we got there in time for them to tell us that the water temp was 38 degrees!!! Needless to say, we had to get geared up in full wetsuits. I'm glad we were too busy to get pics of that! Here's me and Heather all ready to go. We were so stoked.
After a short drive through the canon we arrived at our drop off point. I definitely had to use the facilities by then, but I was not about to take off my get up to go to the RR! I was confident the adrenaline would hold me over...and it did!
This is the view from the raft down the first part of our 1.5 hour long ride. The weather was wonderful; it was actually about 80, so the cold water didn't feel bad at all....unless you were totally submerged!
Like Alan...at one point our super cool guide John, said "hey, if you want to jump in, this would be a great time to float" Keep in mind in the "rules" section of our preparation before getting on board they said 500 times "stay in the raft"!!!!
Heather and I decided it would be nice to stay in and enjoy the scenery, which was awesome by the way. Well, we made it successfully down the river. Here's a pic of Heather and I at the shore where the raft came off. We were seriously considering going on the class 4-5 stretch on the second part of the trip down through Royal Gorge, but our responsibilities were calling. (Mom and Jen were so nice to watch the kids) That's our next adventure, hopefully Jamison will join us!
